Getting Started

A step-by-step guide to set up Meena and start backing up your photos.

Creating Your Account

Meena stores your photos in a free, private cloud. To get started, you need a free account. The easiest way is to use your Google account.

1
Open Meena and tap "Create free account"
This opens a sign-up page in your browser.
2
Tap "Sign up with Google"
This is the easiest option. You can also create an account with a username, email, and password instead.
3
Choose your Google account
Select the Google account you want to use (e.g., your Gmail address).
4
Tap "Allow"
Google will ask for permission to connect. Tap "Allow" to continue.
5
Choose a username
Pick any name you like. This is just an identifier — it won't be shown to anyone.
6
Enter the verification code
A 6-digit code will be sent to your email. Open your email, find the code, and enter it.
Done! Your account is created. Now let's connect it to Meena.

Signing In to Meena

7
Go back to Meena and tap "Sign in"
You'll be taken to a login page.
8
Sign in with Google (or username)
Use the same Google account you signed up with. You can also use your username and password.
9
Tap "Authorize meena"
This gives Meena permission to store your photos in your private cloud. This is a one-time setup.
10
You may get another verification code
For new accounts, a confirmation code may be sent to your email. Enter it to complete the connection. This is normal.
You're in! Meena is now connected to your private cloud. Start uploading your photos.

Using Meena

+
Upload photos
Tap the green + button to upload photos from your camera or photo library. They're backed up instantly.
📁
Create albums
Go to the Albums tab and tap + to create a new album. Long-press photos to select them, then tap "Album" to move them.
🔒
Use the Vault
The Vault encrypts your most private photos with a PIN. Even if someone accessed your cloud, they couldn't see vault photos.
📷
Set album covers
Open an album, select one photo, and tap "Cover" to set it as the album's cover image.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Meena really free?
Yes, completely free. No subscriptions, no hidden costs, no ads. Your cloud storage account is also free.
Can anyone see my photos?
No. Your photos are stored in your own private cloud that only you can access. Meena has no servers — we can't see your photos, and neither can anyone else.
What if I lose my phone?
Your photos are safe in the cloud. Just install Meena on your new device, sign in with the same account, and all your photos will be there.
Is there a storage limit?
Meena automatically manages storage for you. When one storage space fills up, it seamlessly creates more. You don't need to do anything.
What is the Vault?
The Vault is an encrypted space for your most private photos. Photos in the Vault are encrypted on your device before being uploaded. Without your PIN, they're just scrambled data — completely unreadable.
I forgot my Vault PIN. Can I recover it?
If you've used Face ID or fingerprint to open the Vault before, you can use biometric recovery to set a new PIN. Otherwise, vault photos cannot be recovered without the PIN — this is by design for your security.
Does Meena work offline?
Yes. Your albums and recently viewed photos are cached on your device. You can browse them without internet. New uploads will sync when you're back online.
Is Meena open source?
Yes. Meena's code is publicly available on GitHub. Anyone can inspect how your data is handled.
